Block Printing Class

Part 1: Friday, November 17, 5:00-6:30 pm
Part 2: Thursday, November 30, 5:00-6:30 pm
Community Room

We so appreciate Library Trustee Celina Moreno for repeating her very popular block printing class this year! Participants will learn how to design and print their own cards. During the first class, Celina will describe how to create a design and will share ideas for inspiration. Participants will take their work home to carve it out. The second class will focus on printing the cards. We’re limiting this class to 12 people, so sign up today at the library, call us at 208-774-2470, or email us.

Book Club: Year of Wonders

Tuesday, November 28
5:30 pm dinner, 6:00 pm discussion
Community Room and Zoom

This month’s Book Club selection is Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks. When an infected bolt of cloth carries plague from London to an isolated village, a housemaid named Anna Frith emerges as an unlikely heroine and healer. Through Anna’s eyes we follow the story of the fateful year of 1666, as she and her fellow villagers confront the spread of disease and superstition. As death reaches into every household and villagers turn from prayers to murderous witch-hunting, Anna must find the strength to confront the disintegration of her community and the lure of illicit love. As she struggles to survive and grow, a year of catastrophe becomes instead annus mirabilis, a “year of wonders.” Books are available now at the library.

Library Closures

The library will be closed Saturday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day. We honor and are grateful for all those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

The library will also close Thursday and Friday, November 23 and 24, for Thanksgiving. We wish you all safe travels, delicious food, and good times with loved ones.

Our beautiful new display features the Peters Family Heirloom Stones, courtesy of William T. Peters, Peggy and Don Stanley (pictured), and family. The lapidary was originally collected by William A. Peters, resident of Jerome until his passing in the 1960s.

Big Library Read: Artie and the Wolf Moon

November 2-16

The next title in Overdrive’s Big Library Read is Olivia Stephens’s middle grade graphic novel Artie and the Wolf Moon. Use your Libby app to borrow the e-book or e-audiobook with no waitlists or holds.

After sneaking out against her mother’s wishes, Artie Irvin spots a massive wolf—then watches it don a bathrobe and transform into her mom. Thrilled to discover she comes from a line of werewolves, Artie asks her mom to share everything, including the story of Artie’s late father. Her mom reluctantly agrees. And to help Artie figure out her own wolflike abilities, her mom recruits some old family friends. Artie thrives in her new community and even develops a crush on her new friend Maya. But as she learns the history of werewolves and her own parents’ past, she’ll find that wolves aren’t the scariest thing in the woods—vampires are.
