What’s Happening at the Library? 2-14

February 14, 2023 By Stanley Library Staff

Happy Valentine’s Day from the Library! It was fun to have so many patrons of all ages come in to create their own valentines last week.

Visible Mending Class

Thursday, February 16, 5:30 p.m.
Community Room

We’re looking forward to Celina Moreno’s class on visible mending! Bring articles of clothing with rips or holes, and learn how to fix them while making them look fresh and fun. If possible, bring your own darning needles, thread, scraps, etc. (We’ll have some materials available.) Feel free to bring other in-progress needlework craft projects too.

Winterfest Fun

Community Snowman Contest: Thursday-Saturday, February 16-18

Cookies & Cocoa: Saturday, February 18, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Library Courtyard

Winterfest is almost here! The library will offer Cookies & Cocoa in the courtyard on Saturday. We appreciate donated cookies! Please bring them in that morning or the day before. Thank you.

There’s a new Community Snowman Contest among Stanley businesses this year. A huge thank you to Michael Powell for creating adorable skiing snowmen for the library! Starting Thursday, you can vote for your favorite snowman at the Winterfest Facebook page or Instagram page. Winners will be announced on Sunday.

Lots of other events are scheduled for Friday and Saturday: more info here.

Library Closed Monday

The library will be closed Monday, February 20 in observance of Presidents’ Day.

Book Club

Tuesday, February 28, 5:30 p.m.
Community Room

We still have copies of this month’s Let’s Talk About It book, Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo. In this multiple prize-winning book, a bewildering age of global change and inequality is made human through the dramatic story of families striving toward a better life in Annawadi, a makeshift settlement in the shadow of luxury hotels near the Mumbai airport.
