New Display: Frogs
Hop into the library and check out our new display about frogs, featuring the Dean Boyle Family collection. Did you know…
- Frogs are little miracles. Some can freeze solid then warm up and live!
- There are over 7,500 frog species.
- A group of frogs is called an army.
- Some frogs can jump over 20 times their own body length; that is like a human jumping 30 meters.
- Frog shed their skin about once a week and usually eat it.
- The world’s largest frog is the goliath frog of West Africa—it can grow to 15 inches and weigh up to 7 pounds.
- Around here, you’re most likely to see a Colombia Spotted Frog or Western Toad. You might also see Pacific tree frogs and Rocky Mountain tailed frogs in the Sawtooth region. Idaho has 10 species of frogs and toads.
Fish Painting
A great big thank you to Sylvia Hamilton and Daniela Ruiz for their amazing art and science program earlier this month. An enthusiastic crowd made some beautiful prints using real Chinook Salmon from the Sawtooth Fish Hatchery. And we learned a lot about our local fish, too!
